DOST utilize our presence and familiarity with the Central and South Asian cultural context to adapt proven methods of Participation in Government (PG). We use the tenets of PG to form the basis of a citizenship model commonly known as “civics education.”
Our approach uses real world concepts, grounding them in participants’ regional spheres so they are dynamic and adapted to specific locations. Through our training program, trainers, and guest experts who are Government Relations practitioners offer practical advice. DOST focuses on the three essential components of citizenship: civics, the concept of active citizenship and government relations. These concepts represent an upward hierarchy of civic participation activities.
DOST emphasizes these concepts of citizen participation and the practical skills of navigating civic processes at each level. Most critically, it teaches a method by which organizations build an active constituency and interface with civic leaders. By the end of the training sessions, participants have the skills to engage society at all levels, from lay supporters, to other organizations, to elected leaders and policymakers.
Civic Engagement
DOST works closely with the private and public sector to build local constituencies to engage in civic activities across all sectors. Through trainings using case studies as well as SME consultation, we help individuals and organizations to analyze the decision-making processes, mechanisms and risks with issue and constituency based civic engagement efforts.
We provide workshops, trainings, curriculum development as well as Subject Matter Experts in strategic planning, power analysis, media engagement, social media, and coalition outreach. By providing individuals and CSOs with the tools to articulate and advocate, DOST supports the building of a foundation of dialogue between healthy communities and governments.
Civil Society Organizations
DOST provides Civil Society Organizations with the tools to establish shared responsibility for advancing civic participation. We emphasize civic participation as precursors to economic empowerment, as well as social and physical security. Our efforts ensure all vulnerable groups in society are included in this critical process. By leveraging DOST’s local networks, Subject Matter Experts and training curriculum, we address a critical need for local capacity building at a key moment in Central and South Asia’s history.
DOST has the tools to equip CSOs to effectively advocate for policies which support resilient communities as well as ensure accountability and transparency by governments. Through workshops, trainings, curriculum development as well as Subject Matter Experts, DOST supports the development of health civil society organizations capable of advocating across sectors of health, environment, commerce, education and more.
